An out-of-the-way and out of sight trek destination, Upper Dolpo trekking is located mid-west region of Nepal surrounded by the Shey - Phoksundo National Park, at the back Mt. Dhaulagiri and close to Tibet border. The Upper Dolpo area falls within Nepal but culturally is linked to Tibet. Dolpo is an area incorporates a number of Buddhist monasteries. The region has conserved the last leftovers of deep-rooted Tibetan culture. We bump up for about up to 5000m during the trek to the Upper Dolpo region.

This region was a restricted region for the foreign person and was separated and out of sight from the outer world before 1989. After that, the Upper Dolpo region has been brought in as a natural anthology of high passes, unique fauna, arresting scenery which is enhanced by the very old Tibetan cultural heritage. You need to get the trekking permit from government registered trekking agencies before going for this trek. This region is surrounded by
Dhaulagiri from the south and Tibet from the north. Leopards, Himalayan Tahr, Blue sheep, Jackal Himalayan Mouse Hare, Himalaya Black Bear, Yellow-throated Marten, Himalayan Weasel, Musk Deer, Rhesus Monkeys, Langur, and other Himalayan animals can be seen here. In addition, the superb sight of Kanjiroba peak, Phoksundo Lake, and Dhaulagiri massif are the major highlights of the Upper Dolpo trekking. The well-known Phoksundo Lake is above 1500 ft deep and has greenishly blue color surrounded by dense woods and the snowy Himalayas.
