Ganja La Pass is one of the popular and adventurous trekking passes in Nepal. The way to this pass is fairly contracted and there is a danger of rock falling. Trekkers will be cautious during a trek. Trekkers will observe vistas crossways through the vale to the peaks of the Langtang range as well as the Shishapangma which is really mesmerizing. The pass requires the skill to use climbing equipment.

Ganjala Pass Trek starts from Syabrubesi; from here you will walk all along the Langtang River lying to the east part until you arrive at Kyanching Gompa (3049m). On the south from Kyanching Gompa, you will see the peaks of Naya Kanga (5846m) while to the south-east, we will witness Ponggen Dopku (5930m). Kyanching Gompa is surrounded by Urkeinmang (6387m), Loenpo Gang (6979), and Kangchenpo on the north-east; Yala Peak on the north side; and Mt Langtang Lirung (7245m) on the west. When you are passing through the pass there are spectacular sceneries of Langtang Lirung as well as the Tibetan peaks beyond. The highest mark of the trek is Ganjala Pass (5122m) which captivates us.

Outline Itinerary

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu (1400m).
Day 02:  Drive to Syabrubesi (1,550m), 145 km/ 7 hrs.
Day 03:  Trek to Lama Hotel (2,380m), 6 hrs.
Day 04:  Trek to Langtang village (3,430m), 6/7 hrs.
Day 05:  Trek to Kyanjin Gompa (3,870m), 3-1/2 hrs.
Day 06:  Excursion to Tsergo Ri (5033m) and back to Kyanjin, 7/ 8 Hrs
Day 07:  Trek to Ganja La Phedi (4300m), 5-6 hrs.
Day 08:  Cross the Ganja La pass (5122m), Trek to Keldang (4250m): 6/7 hrs.
Day 09:  Trek to Yak Kharka (4000m), 5/6 hrs.
Day 10:  Trek to Tarke Gyang(2,590m), 5/6 hrs.
Day 11:  Trek to Sermathang (2,610m), 3/4 hrs.
Day 12:  Trek to Malemchi Bazaar, Drive to Kathmandu, 3/4 hrs trek, 2 hrs drive.
Day 13:  Departure Day.
Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu (1400m).
After onset to Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, you will be transferred to your hotel by the representative of Gorakhakali Travel and Tours. You will be briefed about the plans trekking. You have a free afternoon in the hotel you can relax.

Day 02:  Drive to Syabrubesi (1,550m), 145 km/ 7 hrs.
After finishing morning breakfast we will drive out next to the northwest hills of Kathmandu. On the way, we will take pleasure from the beautiful peaks, terraced fields, and rural villages. We will have us at the Trishuli Bazaar before moving further to Dhunche. From Dhunche, we drop down to Syabrubesi. Overnight in Syabrubesi.

Day 03: Trek to Lama Hotel (2,380m), 6 hrs.
On this day, our route will follow the Langtang River. Also, we will pass through the dense woods.   Cross a number of suspension bridges. We also go by few tea houses.  The track goes up and about and moves down but the way is trouble-free. As the final point for today, we will reach Lama Hotel.

Day 04:  Trek to Langtang village (3,430m), 6/7 hr.
On this day we will trek for around 7 hours to reach Langtang Village from Lama Hotel. Our trail continues all along thick forests. After walking on a steady way up through the valley, we depart from the tree line at our back. We will enjoy the amazing scenes of Langtang Lirung.  Also, we will pass by prayer wheels, water mills, chores etc. Overnight in Langtang Village.

Day 05:  Trek to Kyanjin Gompa (3,870m), 3-1/2 hr.
We will depart from the village and pass all the way through yaks ‘grazing land.  Also go by the main mani wall in Nepal, prepared from stone with the words of prayers written on it. We will go across several wooden bridges. To conclude the trek for today, we will reach Kyajin gompa. As we are reaching high altitude, we might begin sensing the thin air. Overnight in Kyajing Gompa.

Day 06:  Excursion to Tsergo Ri (5033m) and back to Kyanjin, 7/ 8 Hrs.
Today, we will have an excursion to Tsergo Ri which will one way to become accustomed to the air at high altitude.  The ascend to Tsergo Ri offers marvelously panoramic vistas of the Himalayas. In addition, the ascend to Tsergo Ri is a demanding one which requires physical fitness and prior experience. After that, we will return back to Kyanjing Gompa.

DAY 07:  Trek to Ganja La Phedi (4300m), 5-6 hrs.
We will move ahead from Kyajin Gompa today to Ganja La Phedi. We will walk across the Langtang River and go up through rhododendron woods. Since we are by now in high elevation; the length of reach to our endpoint also depends on the season of the trek. During the winter, it might take a long time to traverse the snow spread path.

DAY 08:  Cross the Ganja La pass (5122m), Trek to Keldang (4250m): 6/7 hrs.
Today we traverse the Ganja La pass. It'd be one of the exhausting days as Ganja La is one of the challenging passes.   Ganja La pass is enclosed with snow nearly all over the year. We will make the lengthy climb through the boulders, go by the small lakes, and reach the peak, Ganja La which located on a rocky moraine. We will enjoy the fantastic views from the pass. Walking up and down the pass can at times be difficult due to snowstorm and ice.  From here, we will descend downward to Keldang.

DAY 09:  Trek to Yak Kharka (4000m), 5/6 hrs.    
We will trek from Keldang to reach Yak Kharka today descending further downward following a well-known ridgeline. We will walk through forests, grasslands, ridges etc for around 6 hours. Overnight in Yak Kharka.

Day 10:  Trek to Tarke Gyang (2,590m), 5/6 hrs.
Today, we move down sensing the fall of altitude significantly, around 1500 meters. The track would be alike, but you will see more vegetation. As the final point, we will reach Tarke Gyang taking around 6 hours from Yak Kharka. Overnight in Tarke Gyang.

Day 11:  Trek to Sermathang (2,610m), 3/4 hrs.
We traverse tiny forest with the sight of the stunning village of Helambu area. The track makes a sweep up around the broad valley end flanked by Parachin and the beautiful Sherpa community of Gangyul. The inhabitants of this community practice Drukpa Kagyu Buddhism which is the national religion of Bhutan. We will trek further to reach Sermathang. Overnight in Sermathang.

Day 12:  Trek to Melamchi Bazaar, Drive to Kathmandu, 3/4 hrs trek, 2 hrs drive.
On our last day of the trek, we stroll down to Melamchi Pul Bazaar with a lot of Sherpa village. From the Bazaar, take the bus to Katmandu. Returning back to the capital, we will move to our hotel. We can do some shopping in Thamel or we also have options for going around Kathmandu for sightseeing which we have missed on the 2nd day of our trip. Overnight at hotel in Kathmandu.

Day 13:  Farewell Friend.
Today you will head off from this wonderful Himalayan homeland, Nepal.  We look forward to meeting you again.
